Psychiatry for Suffolk, VA: Full-Hour Evaluations and Medication Management for Western Hampton Roads
Suffolk covers more land than any other city in Virginia, and psychiatric care has not kept pace with the growth in Harbour View, North Suffolk, and the neighborhoods along Route 17. South Chesapeake Psychiatry is a straightforward drive east across the Chesapeake line, and secure video visits reach every corner of the city, from Bennett's Creek to Holland.
We begin every new client with a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation and provide ongoing medication management with direct access to your provider. SPRAVATO® treatment for treatment-resistant depression is available through TRIP, our insurance-supported service line.

Why Suffolk Residents Come to South Chesapeake Psychiatry
Suffolk's growth has been fast and uneven. Harbour View and North Suffolk have filled with young families, military households from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and commuters who work across the water. Downtown Suffolk and the rural south and west of the city have deep roots and far fewer psychiatric providers. Sentara Obici Hospital anchors medical care, but outpatient psychiatry, particularly for adults who want more than a short medication check, is thin.
The concerns Suffolk clients most often bring us are anxiety and depression in parents juggling long commutes, adult ADHD discovered when a child was diagnosed and the parent recognized the pattern, mood and sleep changes in women in their forties and fifties that turned out to be perimenopause, and depression that has not responded to the medications a primary care provider was comfortable prescribing. Our BHRT evaluation and treatment-resistant depression pages describe two of those paths in detail.
We also see a number of Suffolk clients who tried a national telehealth-only service, were assigned a different prescriber every few months, and want a single provider who knows their history and will answer the phone.

Getting here
Getting to Our Office From Suffolk
Our office is at 200 Carmichael Way, Suite 604, Chesapeake, VA 23322, in the Edinburgh area off Battlefield Boulevard South. From Harbour View and North Suffolk, take I-664 south to I-64 east at Bowers Hill, exit onto Dominion Boulevard (Route 17) south, and follow Cedar Road east to Battlefield Boulevard; plan on thirty to forty minutes. From downtown Suffolk, Route 58 east to I-64 and the same Dominion Boulevard route is usually thirty-five to forty-five minutes. From the southern and western parts of the city, Route 58 or Route 460 to I-64 is the most reliable path.
For many Suffolk clients the drive is worth it for the first visit and unnecessary afterward. Virtual follow-ups are available to anyone physically in Virginia, and a stable internet connection in Holland or Whaleyville works as well as one in Harbour View. Free parking is available on site.
