Why Norfolk Residents Choose South Chesapeake Psychiatry
Naval Station Norfolk is the largest naval base in the world, and the sailors, civilians, and families attached to it live in Ocean View, Wards Corner, Larchmont, and across the city. Our founder is a retired Navy PMHNP who became the Navy's first psychiatric nurse practitioner with independent admitting privileges, and the practice has a dedicated page for military and veteran clients. We understand sea duty, deployment cycles, and the difference between a normal response to an abnormal job and an illness that needs treatment.
Norfolk is also a city of students and academics at Old Dominion University and Norfolk State, of clinicians and trainees at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Sentara Norfolk General, and of a downtown and Ghent professional community. The concerns we see most from Norfolk are adult ADHD in graduate students and early-career professionals, anxiety and depression in healthcare workers who cannot afford to be seen in their own system, and treatment-resistant depression in people who have cycled through several prescribers without a real plan.
Norfolk has a large public and academic mental health infrastructure, and for some people it is the right fit. For those who want a private practice with a full first hour, small caseloads, and quick access to advanced treatments, we are a short drive south.

Getting here
Getting to Our Office From Norfolk
Our office is at 200 Carmichael Way, Suite 604, Chesapeake, VA 23322, in the Edinburgh area off Battlefield Boulevard South. From downtown, Ghent, and the ODU area, take I-264 east briefly to I-464 south, follow it to its end at Battlefield Boulevard (Route 168), and continue south; the drive is typically twenty-five to thirty-five minutes. From Ocean View and Naval Station Norfolk, I-64 east to I-464 south is the most direct route and avoids the Downtown Tunnel. From Norview and the airport area, Military Highway south to I-464 works well.
Tunnel traffic is a fact of life in Norfolk, and we do not want it to be the reason you skip an appointment. Virtual evaluations and follow-ups are available to anyone physically in Virginia, and many Norfolk clients do their first visit in person and most follow-ups by video. Free parking is available on site.
